Cake Stand

I have seen this great idea on several blogs and decided to try it out for myself. I think I even saw the idea on mommysavers. Here is another example at one blog

Sorry, I forgot to take the before but you will get the idea. It really is so simple and fun. It makes a great elegant or whimsical cake stand depending on the look you are going for. If you don't have anything on hand to make this thrift stores are a great place to find the supplies you need. The glue can be found at most grocery and or hardware stores. I found mine at Family Dollar.

What you will need:

Dinner plate
A candlestick holder, bowl or a type of vase to use as a base
Epoxy/cement glue that will work on glass

Put glue around the base of the item you are going to use for the stand part of your cake stand. I also put glue on the plate where I was going to place the stand part. Place the plate upside down so that the stand piece will dry onto the plate. Let it set 24 hours before use. You could use smaller sized plates and cups to make a cupcake holder and/or dessert tower. The possibilities are endless. These would make great gifts for dessert and party enthusiasts. You could even make them a cake or cookies on top and deliver it to the recipient.

Cobalt and Baby Blue and yellow too

I have been seeing a lot of cobalt blue with lemon yellow and I love the combination. I wore this outfit last Sunday (March 25, 2012). Everything is thrifted from Goodwill. My baby has some beautiful blue eyes to match :) His cute clothes are thrifted too. Except his Robeez were from Ebay for about $18 with shipping. I splurged on them since I was having trouble with shoes staying on his feet. These have worked for quite a few months.

Wonderful Yogurt Cake

I found this recipe from allrecipes.com. This is great for any kind of yogurt. I had some yogurt I wanted to use in my fridge so this recipe worked great.

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup plain yogurt ( I used stoneyfield vanilla yogurt)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9 inch bundt pan.

2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg until smooth. combine flour, baking soda, and baking powder; stir into the batter alternately with the yogurt. Spread the batter into the prepared pan.

3. Bake for 50 minutes in the preheated oven, until the knife inserted into the crown comes out clean.

Watercolors or Ombre

This shirt reminds me of a watercolor sunset. I love it :) Also I wanted to add I just recently learned that this kind of color effect is called Ombre. My daughter wanted to get in a picture with me. The earrings are thrifted. The necklace was a gift made by my brother in law TJ. The wooden hair piece was thrifted. The top and cords were thrifted from Goodwill. The shoes are Target but again thrifted from Goodwill. I wore this outfit today to read Horton Hatches an Egg to my daughter's Kindergarten class.

God's Word for March 8, 2012

"Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:30-31

I read this scripture today and thought it is exactly what I needed to hear. I need to wait and trust on the Lord for everything. He has never steered me wrong. He will give me new strength in these times of trouble. It is really hard to carry the burdens that we have in life but God doesn't expect us to do it alone. He will help carry the heavy load. He also will put others in our path to care for us.

Thank you for your word today, Lord. Thank you for letting me know you are still there and you care for me and will help me carry my heavy loads and heal my broken heart. Thank you for Jesus whom took on our suffering on the cross for our sins. In Jesus name, Amen.

Puzzle Piece Decorative Frame

My daughter has a Disney Princess theme going on in her room. We got out this Little Mermaid puzzle to do one day and realized it was missing quite a few pieces. I decided to use it to decorate a picture from last year of her and my mom that was in her room.

Puzzle pieces
Picture frame
Hot glue gun and glue sticks

directions: Arrange pieces how you would like them on the frame and then using your glue gun to secure the pieces. It is as simple as that :) Viola a custom frame that reuses and reduces waste. My daughter loved it.
