Lucky By Alice Sebold

From the author that wrote The Lovely Bones comes a memoir of a time in the author Alice's Life. A time where everything changed and nothing would ever be the same but Alice came out stronger and had the brave heart to fight. As a college student in Syracuse, Alice was raped in a park by her campus. She describes the trials, tribulations and some of the triumphs that came out of her rape and aftermath.

This is a great book and lets you understand how a person is effected by a crime as brutal as rape. It goes into enough detail for the reader to understand the impact but not so much that it turns the reader away from the content. Alice displays courage and lets the reader know that there is life after rape, a different life but a life worth the fight.

Banana Bread

This recipe is from Allrecipes.com
2 Cups all-purpose flour ( I used Whole Wheat)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs beaten
2 1/3 cups mashed overripe bananas
I added crushed Walnuts
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9 by 5 loaf pan.
2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas until well blended. Stir banana mixture into flour mixture; stir just to moisten. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
3. Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 65 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out into a wire rack.

Room By Emma Donoghue

Room is Jack's world. A world that he was born into and now remains in as he turns five. It is his mother's nightmare yet to him it is his home and comfort. Read Jack's point of view as he interacts with his mom, Old Nick, and everything else he encounters in his world. This has a unique perspective and almost has you wondering throughout the book what would Jack do? This book starts out a little slow but ends up putting you right into Jack's world of adventure and heroism.

Once I got into this book I couldn't put it down. I just wanted to know what Jack would do next and how he would react to his "world". I would highly recommend this book to anyone for an entertaining, whimsical and fast read. Pick up Room by Emma Donoghue and you will be delighted.

Camping 2011

Sorry for my absence from posting. We were camping this past weekend and I took a break from technology except my camera of course. My husband took this one. We had a pretty nice weekend and the kids had fun before they start school.
